Kuragehime, Jellyfish Princess Episode 1

Before I start, let me just apologize for not posting an entry in a few days; it's been super-busy at college, what with this being mid-term week and all. And without further ado:

Kuragehime, Episode 1

I recently watched the first episode of Kuragehime, and I was absolutely blown away. No, really, compared to the other shows this season, this is definitely my favorite. Here's the summary:

The story centers around Tsukimi Kurashita, a huge fan of jellyfish otaku and a girl who moves to Tokyo to become an illustrator. She moves into "Amamizukan," an apartment complex that is full of fujoshi (diehard female otaku) with a no-men-allowed rule. However, one day, Tsukimi invites a stylishly fashionable woman to stay at her room at Amamizukan — only to discover that the guest is not who "she" seems to be.

I was hooked from the OP, which consists of several well-done parodies of western movies.

The first episode built up the character of Tsukimi, and about why she is a jellyfish otaku, but it did so humorously. The flatmates of hers all seem to be very unique, and the character designs are fabulous; very distinct.
 DAT AFRO

What I really like, though, is that it doesn't glamorize the "otaku lifestyle"; whereas Oreimo plays upon the idea that a tsundere fashion model will secretly play eroge VNs and discuss the latest anime with you, Kuragehime acknowledges the awkward lifestyle an otaku lives, and goes with that, letting the humor flow more naturally and, truly, is much more entertaining.

Seriously, I've never laughed so much at a first episode.

AND I FUCKING LOVE THE TRAP. I love that he's just a normal guy who happens to enjoy wearing women's clothing, not some kind of doujin stereotype. Like the other characters, he's very unique and very entertaining. As I was concerned he would be a standard trap thrown in for fanservice, this is a great relief.

In conclusion: 10/10 episode, eagerly awaiting the next installment.
